Title: Monitoring of Medical Staff's Hand Contamination after Change for Infected Wound and Managing Hand Hygiene
Abstract: OBJECTIVE To monitor the hand contamination after dressing change for the infected wound and to explore an effective way for hand hygiene. METHODS Caregivers were divided into three groups after applying dressing on infected wound:group 1(no hand-washing),group 2(regular hand-washing),and group 3(standard hand-washing),the pathogens in hands were monitored and the effects of two ways of hand-washing were compared. RESULTS The rate of hand-carrying pathogens after dressing change for the infected wound was 100.0%,the qualified rate of regular hand-washing was only 47.9% and that of standard hand-washing (six-steps method)was 97.9%. CONCLUSIONS The standard hand-washing is more effective than regular hand-washing. Correct hand hygiene should be emphasized to prevent and control nosocomial infection.
