Especially, appreciation of arts is different from a simple information transfer. Media art requires direct involvement or specific interaction it is characteristic, so direct appreciation is a critical method of appreciation. Various factors affect appreciation. In this study, forms of arts, methods of appreciation and forms of exhibition were analyzed based on the recognition that traditional art forms and media arts are different. Open Space 2013, a permanent exhibit in NTT InterCommunication Center (ICC) located in Tokyo, Japan where existing media art works are exhibited, was analyzed. Due to their characteristics, media art exhibitions are held as special exhibits. However, in order to examine the form of exhibition, a museum where media arts are on permanent exhibition were selected. Based on analysis of the exhibition, the following conclusions were reached: First, for exhibition spaces, characteristics of the equipment that support media art should be taken into consideration from the planning; Second, while serving as a space for displaying art works in the transitional art, the wall in media art plays an important role of creating a line of movement to the next space as well as dividing spaces. Third, while traditional painting attaches importance to visual experiences, media art considers not only five senses but also space and experiences in space between works. Fourth, for works that require closed space or that involve time difference, additional information must be provided. In the future, exhibition forms and lines of movement for more media arts need to be studied based on the results of this study.Read More
