Title: Empirical research of job satisfaction on case of university employee groups
Abstract: The article provides results of empirical research on Lithuania’s university employees' job satisfaction. The factors, explaining job satisfaction and job dissatisfaction of employees were determined and differences of work related attitudes were identified among university employee groups. The results indicate that employees are mostly motivated by their work itself, relationship with colleagues and supervisors. The dimensions with the highest dissatisfaction ratings include wok overload, teamwork and conflict management. Employees lack personal development and career possibilities as well as recognition for achievement. Analysis of job satisfaction levels for three groups of employees in the light of two-factor theory was carried out and showed substantial differences in case of motivator factors. Evaluation of hygiene factors turned out to be rather homogenous. Both motivator and hygiene factors were found to be predictors of job satisfaction, though F. Herzberg’s theory only partly proved out. Recommendations for improvement of organizational and human resource management processes fostering employee job satisfaction are provided.
