Abstract: This review essay outlines the current trends of contemporary whiteness research. The author pays attention to the last two decades and to key publications in the field of communication studies. This essay reviews and moves through the ontology, epistemology, and axiology of the contemporary whiteness research, in other words, the ‘what,’ ‘how,' and ‘why' of whiteness theorizing. Whiteness research ontologically conceptualizes whiteness as a social paradox, epistemologically engages complex analysis of whiteness, and axiologically commits itself to racial justice. In addition to reviewing, this essay rearticulates and promotes praxis-oriented whiteness research that centralizes the ‘who' of whiteness theorizing.
