The core is 1.90 m long and preserves Holocene sediments that range from the older part of the Boreal period to the older part of the Subboreal period. Absence of the younger part of the Subboreal and the entire Subatlantic periods seems to suggest the gradual disappearance of mires in this region, corresponding with the previous fi ndings of peat researchers. Peat disappearance probably resulted from drainage of the area and its subsequent use for agriculture or forestry.Read More
