Title: Regulation of the Nitrogen Fixation (nif) Genes in Rhizobium Meliloti
Abstract: Rhizobium meliloti specifically infects alfalfa (Medicago sativa) and a few related plants. Nodule formation on the roots of the host plant is an early event that is specified by a set of genes called nod genes (Long, S.R. et al. 1982; Kondorosi, E. et al. 1984). The expression of these nod genes has been currently investigated. The main focus of our research has been the regulation of nif genes of R. meliloti from the free-living to symbiotic state of this rhizobia.
