Abstract: The next generation of spacecraft carries many advanced technologies that are integrated together to accomplish mission objectives. The understanding and operation of these technologies by the operations team is critical to mission success and demands an operational readiness program that is both structured and comprehensive, and yet is flexible enough to respond to changes in spacecraft and ground system design. This paper presents a structured approach to operations readiness that can be easily applied to multiple mission types regardless of complexity or mission objective. The structured approach described considers all aspects of spacecraft operations development including the operational roles and responsibilities, ground system capability and operational support products from initial concept through the system realization at launch and spacecraft initialization. This paper concentrates on the readiness for the critical initialization phase of the mission although the techniques and methods described can be easily applied to normal day in the life operations.
