Title: A Plausible History for Micronesian Possessive Classifiers
Abstract: PROLOGUE. Possessive classifiers, usually between fifteen and twenty in number, are a feature of all Micronesian languages except Gilbertese. In this paper it is argued that Proto-Micronesian, like Gilbertese, had no possessive classifiers; that is, that the possessive classifier construction was a post-PMC development.
