Title: Regarding the Experiment on Gas Phase Hydrogenation of Benzene for Commercial Production of Cyclohexane
Abstract: For the purpose of producing cyclohexane in large scale, study on fixed bed continuous gas phase benzene hydrogenation was carried out in contrast to liquid phase powdered nickel catalyst process which has the disadvantage of filtering the catalyst after the reaction.Study on the effect of benzene LHSV was carried out in a pilot plant with fixed bed reactor. The hydrogen concentrations of circulating gas were altered and volumes of circulating gas to hydrogenation reaction measured at 150°C and 10kg/cm2.The following results were obtained:1) The purity of cyclohexane produced by this process was very high and nearly equal to that of cyclohexane produced by Hydrar process.2) Excellent results were obtained by selecting definite hydrogen concentration of circulating gas and reducing the benzene LHSV.3) The life of catalyst was sensibly affected by benzene LHSV.4) Assurance was obtained that this process could be used for commercial production.
