Title: Wittgenstein's Analysis of the Paradoxes in His Lectures on the Foundations of Mathematics
Abstract: L UDWIG Wittgenstein is still regarded in many circles as the greatest philosopher of the Twentieth Century.1 Hence, the publication of his 1939 lectures on the foundations of mathematics2 will undoubtedly be hailed by many as an important event, which makes a major contribution to the philosophical literature. From the point of view of Wittgensteinian scholarship, there can be little doubt that this publication is valuable, for the text was prepared by the editor from the copious notes of the lectures taken by four students and provides us with a detailed account of what Wittgenstein said and how he responded to questions and comments. These lectures have been described by Malcolm3 and also by D. A. T. Gasking and A. C. Jackson;4 and it is enlightening to find out just what Wittgenstein said that so impressed these
