The intent of the gr-fec framework is to be flexible enough to allow for various FEC methods to be implemented in a general, consistent way. To demonstrate this, we describe the variety of coders that are currently available in gr-fec: repetition, convolutional, and low density parity check (LDPC) codes. The FEC API is described to illustrate that it should be straightforward to add other FEC coders to this package as well. Thus, gr-fec allows for performance comparisons of new FEC algorithms against existing methods. Also, system designers will benefit from studying how well various FEC methods perform in response to the effects of different channel models and conditions as well as impairments inherent in hardware systems. We conclude with simulation results that highlight the features of the gr-fec package.Read More
