Title: Using Bivariate Distributions for Flood Frequency Analysis Based on Incomplete Data
Abstract: The logistic bivariate general extreme value (BGEV) distribution is utilized for flood frequency analysis where data is incomplete. Model properties and characteristics are described along with maximum likelihood estimation procedure for estimating the model parameters, where the length of record for one of the sites is shorter than for the other one. The goodness of fit of the bivariate model is compared with that obtained applying the univariate general extreme value (GEV) model. Two measures of goodness of fit are used to compare the results and two examples of application of the proposed methodology are included in the paper. The results show that for one of the examples a best fit is obtained when the BGEV distribution is applied while in the other example the GEV distribution produces the best fit.
