Abstract: Precambrian rocks in the Midcontinent region have been of interest for many years, perhaps partly because of their inaccessibilty under a cover of Paleozoic and younger rocks. At first samples of the material brought up by deep borings were, because of their paucity, treated for the most part as curiosities. Now, as data on the nature and distribution of Precambrian rock types accumulate, it is possible to better understand the geologic history of the area.
