For seismic modeling, we use the acoustic approximation. As demonstrated in the literature, the joint inversion of EM and seismic data reduces the non-uniqueness problem of determining porosity and saturation distributions. As the inversion algorithm we employ the preconditioned nonlinear conjugate gradient method and an alternating minimization scheme. The inversion algorithm is parallelized by using the message passing interface (MPI) library. Application of the algorithm on a 3D surface prospecting problem demonstrates that the method is able to simultaneously estimate porosity and fluid saturation distributions of the subsurface.
