Title: The Relationship between Fertility, Hatchability and Mortality in Fowl
Abstract: Vitamin B6 was first defined and delineated as a distinct entity in the vitamin B2 complex. Lepkovsky first reported the isolation of pure crystalline vitamin B6. Vitamin B6 was the second vitamin for which occurrence in bound form was demonstrated. It had been shown for riboflavin, as the first of vitamins, that it acts not only as a vitamin, but also as a proenzyme, as a prosthetic group of the flavoenzymes. The yellow pigment isolated previously by Warburg and Christian from their “yellow” enzyme was a photo derivative of riboflavin and was inactive as a vitamin. The intimate relation of all water-soluble, and probably also of fat-soluble, vitamins to enzymatic reactions was first demonstrated for in riboflavin and vitamin B6 and is now generally recognized.
