'No.5’の葉脈中には,感受性の4品種に比べて多数のカロースの形成部位が観察された。個々にアブラムシの吸汁行動とカロース形成を検討した結果,抵抗性品種では吸汁20分以内にワタアブラムシが自発的に口針を引き抜く行動がしばしば観察されたが,そのような行動は感受性品種では観察されなかった。また葉脈内に形成された口針鞘の長さやその到達組織には明瞭な品種間差が認められなかったが,抵抗性品種ではかなり多量のカロースが口針鞘の周辺に高率で形成されていたのに対し,感受性品種ではカロースの形成はごく少ないか全く認められなかった。以上の結果から,カロース形成はメロン品種のワタアブラムシ抵抗性に重要な役割を持つことが示唆された。':
