Title: Antimicrobial Activities in Cultivated Origanum vulgare subsp. hirtum Populations of Different Origin
Abstract: Origanum L. genus belongs to Lamiaceae (Labiatae) family. It has antimicrobial activities on high rates. Especially Origanum vulgare L. has very efficient antimicrobial activities because of the high essential oil with its main components; thymol and carvacrol. Origanum vulgare L. subsp. hirtum (Link) Ietswaart, main components of the essential oil are carvacrol, thymol, γ-terpinene and p-cymene. This study was conducted in order to determine antimicrobial activities in cultivated Origanum vulgare subsp. hirtum populations of different origin, and to correlate harvest times with antimicrobial activity.
