Title: The Concept and Estimation of Gross State Product
Abstract: the U.S. Department of Commerce is personal income, by major component, published annually, and soon to be published quarterly. This series comprises the income of the largest economic sector-households and private nonprofit institutions-and is closely related to the major type of final demand, consumption. Nevertheless, households are only one part of the economy, and personal income does not purport to represent all income or economic activity of an area; indeed, the secular and cyclical movements of personal income deviate significantly from those of gross product. It is the latter series which reflects the net result of all economic activity of an area, and with which all the various sector estimates should be articulated.
