Title: Predictability of Beach Nourishment Project Performance in Florida
Abstract: Beach nourishment provides a near-natural approach to shoreline maintenance. Beach nourishment design and evaluation aids are described and demonstrated for predicting the performance of projects. These entail broad scale quantification of closure depth and wave conditions coupled with a relatively simple one-line numerical model. The applicability of these aids is demonstrated by comparison with two well-monitored projects in which the proportion of nourishment material remaining in the placement area obtained through monitoring is compared with the predicted proportion versus time. It is concluded that overall performance can be predicted within approximately ± 25%.
