Title: The "Anti-Hegemony" Controversy in Sino-Japanese Relations
Abstract: IN RECENT YEARS a major component of China's foreign policy has been its attacks on superpower hegemony, and it has been made clear that Moscow is the main target.' Her staunch adherence to antihegemony has emerged as a severe irritant in Sino-Japanese relations and the major stumbling block to the signing of a Sino-Japanese treaty of peace and amity as stipulated in the Chou-Tanaka communique of I 972. This article examines the nature and development of the anti-hegemony controversy, with particular emphasis upon domestic and external factors governing Japan's attitude.
