Title: The Analysis of Hydrocarbon Types -- Saturates, Aromatics and Olefins--by Selective Chemical Absorption and Flame Ionization Detection
Abstract: A fast GC method is described for the analysis of hydrocarbon types. The aromatic and olefinic hydrocarbons are selectively retained by two chemical absorbents while the saturates pass unaltered and the resulting peaks are detected by FID. The very simple device described is installed directly in the GC oven in place of the column without further modification. The technique can be applied to gaseous or liquid samples of hydrocarbons up to 200–220°C boiling point. Analysis time is 5 minutes and the accuracy similar to other known techniques.
