Title: The White-Fir Needle Miner, Epinotia meritana, in Utah12
Abstract: Epinotia meritana Heinrich infests white fir stands of southern Utah. The larvae overwinter as first and second instars within partially mined needles. Larvae mature in late May and June and pupate in June and July. Adults emerge from June through July; mating and oviposition occur in July and August. Eggs hatch in August and larvae bore into needles and start mining. In Utah there is 1 generation annually. A variety of species of parasites were reared from larvae and pupae. Successive years of feeding cause limb mortality in trees of all age classes and mortality of codominant, intermediate, and suppressed trees.
