Title: Example of output regulation for distributed parameter systems
Abstract: Our interest is in the development of a systematic methodology for the design of feedback control schemes capable of shaping the response of complex dynamical systems. In the present paper we present a brief survey of our recent development of a geometric approach to feedback design for linear distributed parameter systems with bounded actuators and sensors. In this paper, we give an example of our feedback design methodology for the problem of periodic tracking for a one dimensional heat equation. Our design methodology, which is based on the geometric theory of output regulation, derives from invariance principles and the infinite dimensional center manifold theorem. Our numerical studies suggest that for neutrally stable exogenous reference signals, these control laws perform very well. These same methods have recently been applied in the case of unbounded controls and, also, for one dimensional nonlinear models.
