Title: Phase behaviors of lithium soap/synthetic oil greases.
Abstract: The phase behaviors of lithium soap/synthetic oil greases have been investigated by differential thermal analysis (DTA). The phase transition temperatures of the greases prepared with di-2-ethylhexyl sebacate and pentaerythritol tetraoctanoate were affected hardly by the atmosphere in which the grease was prepared. The first prime phase transition temperature observed for hydrocarbon-base greases prepared in nitrogen atmosphere could not be seen for the synthetic-base-oil greases. The second and third phase transition temperatures of these greases were observed as a linear function of the solubility parameter of the base oil.
