Title: Preface to Special Issue on the Propagation of Long Radio Waves
Abstract: The propagation of long radio waves is of great practical importance in the fields of reliable communication, long range navigation, the dissemination of standard frequency and time, and the detection of nuclear explosions. Long radio waves propagate in the waveguide formed by the earth and the lowest ionosphere. Thus observations of changes in propagation, both diurnally and during solar and geophysical disturbances, provide a useful means of studying the properties of the lower ionosphere.
