Title: A Re-energised Approach to a Competitive European Electricity Market
Abstract: This article focuses on the liberalisation of the European electricity sector and the creation of a single electricity market. Attempts at creating a single electricity market in Europe are now over two decades old. These efforts are pitted against the difficult task of trying to harmonise numerous electricity systems, which, for almost a century, were the product of purely national policy. The goal of creating a single market for electricity has faced many difficult hurdles. Nevertheless, the European Commission has been relentless in its efforts and continues to produce ever more detailed electricity laws to achieve its goal. The present article focuses on these problems and the newest electricity laws which aim to eliminate them.
