Abstract: Repair of a longitudinal peripheral meniscal tear permits salvage of this structure in a high percetage of cases. In this paper an arthroscopic technique for meniscal repair is persented. A prospective study of arthroscopic meniscal repairs in 12 patients (two women and ten men) were carried out from Jan. 1985 to Jan. 1987. a medial and 3 lateral menisci were repaired. Seven tears were treated within 2 weeks and 5 tears were treated for as long as 8 years after infury. At a mean follow-up period of one year (range, 6 months to 18 months), all of the acute injuriex ≦(100 percent) and 4 chornic injuries (80 percent) had been clinically and arthroscopically proven that these repaired tears had healed. One chronic case had a rerupture at the suture area and an arthroscopic partial menisectomy was performed immediately after arthroscopy.
