Title: Foreign Direct Investment in Mexico: The Determinant Factors of FDI Location Throughout the Mexican States
Abstract: Arguments about what are the factors that attract Foreign Direct Investment have been debated for a long time. Of course conditions in different countries and regions will account for different factors. This study is focused on the measurement of the determinants of Foreign Direct Investment throughout the 32 states of Mexico. Although many studies have measured the relation between FDI and other variables in the globe, it has only been tested once within the Mexican territory. With the purpose of improving the attractiveness of the Mexican states for FDI income flows, this study determines what factors drive Foreign Direct Investment inside Mexico. Our results from 2006 to 2008 indicate that FDI has a strong and positive relation with GDP and Public Investment in Electric Infrastructure (PIEI) and a negative correlation with GDP per capita and Economically Active Population, portraying a tendency of FDI been directed to low income states.
