Title: PISCES field chemical emission measurement program: Recent emission results from oil-fired power plants
Abstract: Title III of the 1990 Clean Air Act Amendments (CAAA) mandated that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) evaluate emissions and health risks associated with 189 hazardous air pollutants emitted from the stacks of electric utility steam generating stations. EPA is currently proceeding with the electric utility study and expects to summarize its findings in a report to Congress in 1995. In anticipation of the CAAA, the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) initiated the Power Plant Integrated Systems: Chemical Emission Studies (PISCES) research program. The PISCES program has sampled over a range of fuels, boiler configurations, flue gas desulfurization systems, and NO{sub x} control technologies. This paper highlights some of the recent results and issues from field sampling programs at utility oil-fired power plant sites.
