Title: Medical Ethics: Principles of Medical Ethics
Abstract: This chapter discusses the principles of medical ethics and their origins. The role of medical ethics is examined in addition to the traditional understanding of what is meant by medical ethics. Medical ethics is not something that can be applied to medicine as it is part of everyday medical practice. A critique of principlism is provided which shows that adhering to four main concepts oversimplifies the real nature of medical ethics. The principles of medical ethics will be found in the professional guidelines that are issued by regulatory bodies such as those published by General Medical Council.
