Title: Effect of planting pattern and intercrop on yield and economics of pigeonpea (Cajanus cajan)-based intercropping system
Abstract: A field experiment was conducted from 1997–98 to 1999–2000 to work out the suitable planting pattern with different intercrops in pigeonpea [Cajanus cajan (L.) Millsp.]-based intercropping system for Central Plain Zone of Uttar Pradesh under rainfed conditions. Overall soybean [Glysine max (L.) Merr.] intercropped with pigeonpea gave the highest net returns (Rs 19,465/ha). In general, replacement series resulteid in significantly higher pigeonpea-equivalent yield than additive series. Highest net profit/rupee investment was recorded with blackgram [Phasolus mungo L.) + pigeonpea (1.45).
