Abstract: From protest placards to text paintings, works produced at Parramatta Artists Studios (PAS) cleverly voice topical opinions and ideals, while portrait-based works and selfimposed endurance performances reflect interactions with surrounding people and places. Since opening in 2006, PAS has become a key node for exchange and dialogue in Western Sydney. It is a site that has become mythologised, questioned and revered. It provides an enviable space where the physical studio is superseded by a strong ideological space. Equally, situated in a city's epicentre, the studios have also become a tool for understanding a place and drawing people to a place, hence influencing perception shifts and ensuring locational relevance.
