Title: Performance of Varieties and Herbicides on Production Potential of Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) and Associated Weeds
Abstract: A field experiment was conducted during winter seasons of 2005 and 2006 at Agronomy Research Farm of N. D. U. A. & T., Kumarganj, Faizabad. Significantly lower weed density, dry matter accumulation and nutrient depletion by weeds were recorded in cultivar K-9107 followed by NW-1014 due to better smothering effect, good genetic potential and maximum number of tillers as compared to HP-2733, PBW-343 and HP-1731. However, PBW-343 recorded significantly higher grain (3055 kg/ha) and straw yield probably due to better crop growth and yield attributes. Among the herbicidal treatments, application of sulfosulfuron reduced the uptake of nutrient by weeds and increased by crop which resulted in higher grain (2898 kg/ha) and straw yield and it was at par with fenoxaprop-P-ethyl and significantly superior over other herbicidal treatments. Season long weed free environment obtained significantly higher yield attributes, grain (3485 kg/ha) and straw yield and reduced the nutrients depletion by weeds over rest of the weed control measures.
