Title: What Type of Sewer Pipe is Best? Life-cycle Cost Analysis Yields Answer
Abstract: In the past, many engineers have selected the type of sewer pipe for a particular project based mainly on a comparison of initial costs of concrete, steel, and other types of pipes. This approach fails to take into account that some sewer pipes don't last as long as others and will have to be replaced sooner. One American city and its consultants are now selecting sewer pipe on a life-cycle cost basis. Lifespans of various types of sewer pipes are examined and a strategy for comparing life-cycle costs is presented.
