Title: Variability and heritability studies for cane yield and quality traits in sugarcane (Saccharum Spp.)
Abstract: Seventy seven clones including four checks were evaluated during 2011 -12 in second clonal stage. The studies on genetic parameters revealed that the characters viz., shoot population at 240 DAP, stalk length, number of millable canes, fibre content, brix, sucrose, CCS per cent, pol per cent cane, total sugars per cent, biomass per cane, fibre yield, CCS yield, theoretical yield of alcohol and cane yield showed high heritability coupled with high genetic advance as per cent of mean indicating that these characters were under the influence of additive gene effects and selection would be effective for the improvement of these characters.
