Title: DIALLEL ANALYSIS OF CARCASS CHARACTERISTICS IN BROILER RABBITS
Abstract: A total of 241 bunnies belonging to New Zealand White (NZW), Grey Giant (GG), Soviet Chinchilla (SC), Flemish Giant (FG) and their six F1 crosses were slaughtered at 16 weeks of age. The data on dressing percentage and head, feet, pelt, edible and non-edible offals and fore, mid and hind cut percentages of the carcass were converted into angles using arc-sin transformation and subjected to least squares analysis. Season of birth significantly affected all the traits studied, except the feet and hind cut percentages. Sex of bunny influenced the head, feet and fore cut percent ages only. Effect of genetic group was significant on head and fore cut percentages. Estimates of heterosis over mid-parent were low. The g.c.a. and s.c.a effects for head and fore cut percentages were significant (P ≤ 0.01) indicating the existence of additive as well as non-additive genetic variance for exploitation.
