Title: Interrelationship of Quantitative Traits with Grain Yield in Field Pea
Abstract: Correlations and path coefficients were studied in 40 pea varieties. A close resemblance between phenotypic and genotypic correlations was observed, although genotypic correlations were slightly higher than phenotypic correlations. The grain yield was significantly associated with branches per plant, seeds per pod, pods per plant, and 100-seed weight. Days to flowering with days to maturity, pod length with seeds per pod and 100 seed weight, and seeds per pod with pod length had significant positive correlations. 100-seed weight with seeds per pod and pods per plant, and branches per plant with pod length were negatively associated. Path coefficient analysis indicated that branch number, pods per plant, seeds per pod, and 100-seed weight seemed to be important yield contributing components. In general, characters showing high genotypic correlations with yield showed high coheritability values with yield also.
