Title: Effect of nutrient solutions and bioregulators on the growth of dendrobium hybrid seedlings
Abstract: Small, well established seedlings of dendrobium hybrid New Pink x Emma were subjected to application of different nutrient solutions and bioregulators. The nutrients tried were MS stock solution (10%), 30:10:10 (Green care - a commercial fertilizer formulation under the trade name), 17:17:17 NPK complex and their combinations. They were sprayed at different doses and at different intervals. More number of shoots (5.5) was observed in the treatment 30:10:10 green care sprayed at 0.2 per cent level as well as 17:17:17 NPK complex sprayed at 0.1 per cent level (both given as alternate day sprays). The least number of shoots(3.0) was observed for the treatment 30:10:10 greencare(0.1%)sprayed at weekly intervals. Regarding the number ofleaves, maximum number (10.3) was recorded for 30:10:10 green care (0.1%) sprayed on alternate days. The rate of increase in the number of shoots and leaves was also more in these treatments. Two bioregulators BA and GA3 were used at different levels, viz., 5, 10, 25 and 50 mg l−1 and sprayed at fortnightly and monthly intervals. Maximum number of shoots (10.75) was observed in BA 50 mg l−1, sprayed at fortnightly interval. Tallest shoots were observed in the seedlings receiving fortnightly sprayings of GA3 10 mg l−1 (16.25 cm). The treatments'did not show much influence on the number of leaves.
