Title: Factors affecting pre-weaning body measurements of Assam local and Assam local crossbred kids
Abstract: Data on three linear body measurements, Viz., Body length (BL), height at withers (HW) and heart girth (HG) of 246 kids belonging to three genetic groups maintained at 3 different farms of Assam Agricultural University, covering a period of 10 years (1990 to 1999) were utilized. Genetic groups exerted highly significant (P≤0.01) effect on the body measurements at all the ages. All the three measurements showed an increasing trend with the increase in Beetal inheritance. Male kids were found to be superior to the female ones with regard to the three measurements at all the ages. The kidding order had non-significant effect on these traits. The seasonal effects on various body measurements were found to be significant (P≤0.05; 0.01) at all the ages except birth. All the body measurements in kids born as singlets were superior to those born as multiples at all the ages.
