Abstract: The paper describes some of the differences between Critical Path Method (CPM) and Critical Chain Method (CCM). Particular attention is focused on differences between the float known from CPM and buffer known from CCM. Comparing to floats, buffers seems more attractive because of generating the early warning system. An investigation of two scenarios confirmed that when number of activities in the chain is constant, the CCM project duration is retained the constant portion of joined CPM duration, no depending of altering activity durations. On the contrary, when number of activities in the chain changes, the CCM project duration changes portion to related CPM duration. By transferring a part of totally available time from activity duration used in CPM to buffer in CCM, a new situation will result with need for more care about monitoring process and communication among project participants
