Title: Comparative Growth, Nutrient Digestibility, Carcass Quality and Semen Characteristics of Bucks Fed on Subabul (Leucaena Leucocephala) And Berseem (Trifolium Alaxandrinum)
Abstract: Ten bucks (Beetal x Black Bengal) were divided into two groups of live each. Animals of group 1 were fed exclusively on subabul (Leucaena leucocephala) hay and those of group 2 berseem (Trifolium alaxandrinum) hay. The respective DCP and TDN contents were 12.61, 13.04 and 51.52, 52.45 per cent. The daily DM intake/100 kg body weight was 2.92 and 3.52 kg in group 1 and 2, respectively. Average gain in body weight was 34.90 and 35.50 g/day for group 1 and 2 respectively. The differences in DM intake, growth rate, nutrients digestibility, histo-pathological parameters, carcass traits and semen characteristics were non-significant. It was inferred that there is no ill effect of feeding subabul hay as a sole feed in goats.
