Title: Operation of a Distribution System in the 1990s
Abstract: In order to control and operate a power distribution system safely and efficiently in the 1990's, there will be many changes to traditional ideas and methods. Control centres will change dramatically as more sophisticated communication equipment is introduced and an even greater reliance is placed upon computers for managing the power network. Customers will continue to expect a high level of service and it is felt that it will only be through the continued introduction of new technology that the customers' needs will be able to be met. This paper will discuss some of the philosophical aspects of the desirable facilities for the operation of the power system in the 1990's and give some examples of the approaches being adopted at Prospect County Council, the second largest supply authority in N.S.W., supplying the rapidly developing area west of Sydney.
