Title: Heterosis for yield and its attributes in greengram (Vigna Radiata L. Wilczek)
Abstract: Twenty crosses generated from crossing five lines with four testers were evaluated to get information on extent of heterosis over mid parent, better parent and standard variety for yield and yield attributing traits in greengram. Heterosis to the extent of 67.52, 65.45 and 59.55 per cent over mid parent, better parent and standard variety, respectively was recorded for seed yield/plant. Heterosis for yield was generally accompanied by heterosis for yield attributing components. Cross combinations viz., MGG-295 × PM-112, MGG-295 × PM-115, MGG-295 × PM-110, MGG-351 × PM-115, LGG-460 × WGG-37, LGG-460 x PM-112, TM-96-2 × WGG-37 and TM-96-2 × PM-112 were identified as promising for seed yield per plant and other desirable traits and needs to be tested on large scale for potential exploitation of hybrid vigour or to isolate the desirable segregants.
