Title: Participation of Rural Women of Sunderban in Decision Making Related to Fishery Activities
Abstract: Rural women in India have always been an important and prominent part of agriculture and fisheries sector. Despite of their presence at all areas in inland the sector, the role of women remains largely ignored. Women perform many of the pre-harvesting, and post-harvesting tasks. A study was conducted in Frezarganj areas of Sunderban to do an in-depth study to know how far rural women of Sunderban participate in decision making process. Highest participation of women in decision making was on the matter related to preparation of food items (67%) and giving child supplementary food items (67%). The suggestive measures for improving decision making ability, i) institutional financial support, ii) organisation under Self Help Groups, iii) vocational training, iv) creation of awareness about different government development and social sector schemes.
