Abstract: The purpose of this study was to examine theoretically definition on well-being. Well-being researches seem especially prominent in current positive psychology and is particularly strong interest in issues of psychological growth and health Current researches car well-being have been derived from two philosophical traditions the hedonic approach which focuses on happiness and defines well-being in terms of pleasure attainment arid pain avoidance, and the eudaimonic approach, which focuses on self-realization and defines well-being in terms of the degree to which a person is fully optimal functioning and actualization of human potentials Most research on the hedonic approach to understanding of human well-being has used assessment of subjective well-being(SWB), which consist of three components life satisfaction, the presence of positive affect, and the absence of negative affect Eudaimonic approach has used assessment of psychological well-being(PWB), which reflects the Aristotelian concept of eudaimonia. The debate between hedonic and eudaimonic theorists has often been quite heal Marry researchers use different terminology to distinguish between hedonic and eudaimonic well-being and they also differ in their assessment of the relative inclusiveness of the two types of well-being, but their treatises of the topic seem to converge on defining eudaimonic well-being as reflecting self-realization, personal growth and expressiveness and, more generally, human flourishing or realization of one`s true nature. In this context Self-determination Theory(SDT) has accepted as a multidimensional phenomenon that includes aspects of both hedonic and eudaimonic conceptions of well-being. However, the limited research on well-being has examined in aspects of both hedonic and eduaimonic well-being. To gin a more complete understanding of human well-being in physical activity context, therefore, future research propose that it is important to focus on eudaimonic approach as well as hedonic approach.
