Abstract: Responses to insurance fraud in eight Western industrialized nations are described, and located by reference to the apparent extent of fraud and the degree of organized control. It is clear that the problem has been growing in recent years and that there are similarities in the responses of different nations, but there are also considerable variations both in the willingness to respond collectively and publicly and in the tactics adopted.
