Title: Chemical Control of Cyperus rotundus and Cynodon dactylon under Non-crop Situations
Abstract: A field trial was carried out during kharif 1992 and 1994 to control Cyperus rotundus and Cynodon dactylon by increasing the efficacy of glyphosate either by raising the temperature or by the use of some additives. Glyphosate 0.75 and 1.5 kg/ha was tried alone or in combination with 2% ammonium sulphate with and without polyethylene (PE) mulching, whereas in 1994 g1yphosate 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 kg/ha was tried alone or in combination with ammonium sulphate 2% and 2, 4-D 1.0 kg/ha. Repeat application of glyphosate at 0.75 kg/ha was the best treatment with lowest number of Cyperus shoots. But the regrowth of Cyperus and Cynodon was significantly reduced with glyphosate applied in combination with ammonium sulphate 2 per cent. Mulching with PE sheets alonewas also effective in reducing the top growth of Cyperus but was totally in effective in checking the regrowth.
