Title: Effect of Added K and Incubation Time on Transformation of Available K and Non-exchangeable K in Different Soils of Maharashtra
Abstract: A laboratory incubation study was undertaken to monitor the nature of transformation of added K in soils from nine locations viz., Panvel (Entisol), Radhanagari (Oxisol), Paud (Inceptisol), Digraj, Badnapur, Latur and Pipri (Vertisols), and Ganeshpur and Hiware (Alfisols). The CaCl2 extractable K fraction increased with the increase in the amount of Kadded to the soil, where as it decreased with the increase in the period of incubation. The rate of increase or decrease however, showed variable trend in different soils. Similar trend was noticed in respect of exchangeable K in different soils. In the case of non-exchangeable K however, the per cent increase in the fraction decreased with increase in the level of K added to the soil and it increased with the increase in the time of incubation. Fixation of K in different soils has positive and significant relationships with pH, CaCO3, clay and silt contents but it was negatively correlated with sand and organic carbon contents of soils.
