Title: Performance evaluation of aonla (Emblica officinalis Gaertn.) for flowering behaviour in arid region
Abstract: The observations indicated that there were great variation among the cultivars in morpho- floral characters like length of branchlet, size of pedicel, smiling buds, petals, androecium and gynoecium but there was no correlation between size of reproductive parts. However, in all the cultivars the size of petals and size of gynoecium in female flowers were more than size of petal and size of androecium in male flowers. The peak flowering period is second fortnight of March in all the cultivars. The NA-10 has longest flowering period (26 days) while Kanchan has shortest (17 days). The peak time of anthesis was about 6 P.M. in Chakaiya, Krishna and Kanchan while 7 P.M. in NA-6 and NA-7. The lowest sex ratio was recorded in Chakaiya (1:89) followed by NA-6 (1:58), Krishna (1:56), NA-10 (1:25), NA-7 (1:20) and highest in Kanchan (1:12) owing to higher per centage of female flowers in Kanchan (8.33) followed by NA-7 (5.00), NA-10 (4.00), Krishna (1.78), NA-6 (1.72) and minimum in Chakaiya (1.12), which determine the fruitfulness of any cultivar.
