Abstract: Revolutionary work by agriculture scientists and the efforts of farmers have helped to achieve a breakthrough in the agriculture sector in the 1960s, popularly known as the ‘Green Revolution’. Higher agricultural production and efficient productivity achieved in subsequent years has been the main reason for attaining food security to a larger extent. The country has not witnessed any immense technological breakthrough in agriculture since then. The food safety net requires enhanced agricultural production and productivity in the form of a Second Green Revolution. Further, India is an agricultural country which is tantamount with risk and uncertainty because the agriculture in India depends upon the natural input factors, i.e. adverse weather conditions, flood, draught, peril etc. Uncertainties of nature have leaded various problems to farmers as well as Indian agriculture. These problems can be reduced by providing various kinds of securities and assurance to them. Crop Insurance is one and very important of them. It helps in providing stability to farm production and increases the income of the farmers. Crop insurance helps in stabilization of farm production and income of the farming community.
